Interns will work full time with Christ Community Health Services (CCHS) gaining clinical experience, urban ministry experience as well as work experience within the organization. Urban Medical Year will expose students to incarnational ministry, discipleship, and will give a solid foundation for ministry in the medical setting to the poor and underserved in Memphis and around the world.
When: The program will begin on Monday, August 20th, 2012 and end on Friday, May 24th, 2013
Housing: All interns will live in housing provided by CCHS in Binghampton (one of the target areas for CCHS). Interns will be responsible for all living expenses including, rent, utilities, food, etc. Rent and utilities are estimated at $300-$400 a month.
Weekly Work Schedule: Christ Community Health Services will provide interns with a job to fill whatever roles are needed as decided by the Executive Director to assist and further the general business of CCHS. Interns will work within this role 20 hours a week. Two mornings a week, interns will shadow a doctor at one of the clinics gaining clinical experience. The remaining time (three afternoons a week) interns will work with Christ Community Ministries (CCM) on developing and sustaining a health ministry project to benefit the communities & patients served by the clinics. This CCM project will also incorporate the visiting medical students staying at the Hebron House.
Wages and Benefits: Interns will be paid $10/hour and will work 40 hour weeks at CCHS. Interns will also be eligible for health insurance (medical, dental and vision) as a full time employee. The employee paid portion of the medical insurance premium is approximately 25% of the total premium; for 2010-2011 the employee portion is $20.78 (Option 1) or $24.95 (Option 2) per pay period for the employee-only coverage.
Interns will be given the following days off without pay: the week between Christmas and New Years (Dec 24-28, 2012), and all other scheduled CCHS Holidays. Any other days off need to be approved and will also be without pay.
Conferences: Interns will attend the Global Missions Health Conference (Nov 8-10, 2012) as well as the Christian Community Health Fellowship Conference (May 16-18, 2013). CCM will pay for half of the hotel and conference registration expenses.
